Transferware Toile is becoming wildly popular again, thankfully!
This resurgence may have been brought on by the idealistic French antiques
and old-world feel that has become so popular. Regardless of the fact
that toile is a fabric pattern, and transferware is a ceramics style that
is collectable, the two complement each other wonderfully. In fact, many
times they use very similar patterns. So what exactly is this transferware that goes
so well with toile? Transferware is a specific kind of ceramics that is
used for decorative purposes, and was originally created in Staffordshire,
England. Like toile, this wonderfully beautiful pattern depicts scenes
from everyday life, or from historical events or stories. Transferware, like toile, is often collectible. Brown is often the most inexpensive, and is seen as lower quality than other colors. Blue is the most desirable due to the scarcity of the dye when it was first created. Other available colors include red and green.
