Toile Curtains

Decorating your home can be a huge project. Whether you choose to carry the same feeling from room to room, or whether you choose to make each room unique, toile is a wonderful choice for a bedroom. However, because of the unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary freshness, it can be difficult to re-capture that throughout the whole room. One element that becomes very important is the draperies.

Everyone knows (whether they realize it or not), that the whole room can be influenced by one factor or another. One that everyone tends to notice, however, is whether the draperies and curtains match the bedding. Because toile embodies so many different things, there are a variety of things you can try. However, most designers would stay away from really heavy materials, as toile generally promotes a very fresh feel.

Use your bedding as a guide for your curtains. Does it have a scalloped (wavy) edge, or a straight edge? Does it use several colors, or just one or two? All of these things make a difference in the direction you should go when choosing your draperies and curtains. If your bedding has a lot of frills and intricacies, then your draperies should generally be the same style. Just make sure it's not too much frill for the room. On the other hand, if your toile bedding has more smooth edges, then you'll probably want something more free-flowing and simple. Sheer is always an option, but should be used with caution. Use your best judgment. Really, the only people whose opinions truly matter are you and your spouse or significant other.

Whatever you do with your toile room, make it personally yours. Extending this to the windows could mean adding a finishing touch such as a unique curtain rod, or a coordinating valance. Regardless what you add, carry it throughout the room. When everything flows together to make the room feel just how you want it, you'll know you've completed your toile-themed bedroom. Remember, finding the bedding is just the start.
