Toile Bedding Thread Count

Have you ever looked into buying sheets and wondered what one earth a "thread count" is? It's one of the major indicators of quality, but can sometimes be quite confusing. In short, the thread count on a piece of material is a measurement of how many individual threads have been woven into the fabric, measured per square inch (square of fabric one inch on each side). Rule of thumb is that the higher the thread count, the softer the material, or, in this case, the bedding.

The thread count in bedding is affected by the ply, or thickness, of the threads used. The thinner the thread, the more can be woven into one inch of bedding. The higher the count, the smoother the bedding. By most people, any thread count over one hundred is seen as acceptable. Some may go as high as a thousand. However, to most people, four-hundred and over is seen as an unnecessary excessiveness.

Toile is one of the most beautiful types of material available for bedding. It was originally intended for the wealthy, but is now one of the more affordable materials. Toile has a very intricate, beautiful look. It compares excellently to other materials when it comes to thread count. As with all types of materials, although a certain thread count is expected, the actual number can vary with the specific company.

When purchasing toile bedding, look specifically for a good thread count. Most quality companies will provide a thread count of around two hundred-a high quality thread count. In addition to being a beautiful fabric, this fact also makes toile bedding soft, fine, and strong. This fact applies to all of the toile in the bedding. This includes the pillowcases and shams, the cover, and probably even the bed skirt. Sheets are usually made of another type of material, and should be examined carefully for likewise quality.
