Toile Bedding Pieces
Shopping for a new home can be confusing. You
have to find things that work for each individual room, as well as promoting
the overall feel of the home. One of the most important rooms is the bedroom.
This space is personally yours, and should reflect that. However, when
shopping for bedding it can be confusing what a "bed set" actually
includes. Should you choose toile, you've made an excellent choice. However,
that still leaves the question of what they mean by a "collection"
or "set".
Bedding includes many pieces, each of which adds
to the total set and look. The list can get very lengthy, as well as very
confusing. However, most bedding includes several core pieces: the bedspread,
the top sheets, the fitted sheets, the pillow shams, the bed skirt, and
the throw pillows.
Out of all the pieces that go into a set, perhaps the most influence is
made by the toile bedspread itself. This is the blanket that goes over
the sheets and is actually seen. Whether it be a duvet and cover, or a
simple blanket, this sets the tone of the room. It also is responsible
for introducing colors.
Whether you prefer a top sheet or not, most bed sets come with them. They
usually do not, however, carry on the toile print. Fitted sheets are the
sheets that, well, fit the bed. They generally have elastic sewn around
rounded corners, so that it stretches over the mattress snugly. The sheets
are definitely an important part of the bedding.
No, these aren't pillows in disguise. Pillow shams, which may or may not
carry on the toile pattern, fit over the pillow. Most bedding ends up
looking its best with several sham-covered pillows. These are really only
meant for display, and simply go in front of the pillows that are actually
used. You'll have to experiment to see how many shams look best in your
toile-themed room.
These are seen as the finishing touches on bedding. Whether they carry
on the toile pattern is up to you-they can usually be found either way.
Throws are meant to look just like that-as if they were simply thrown
onto the bed as a last-minute touch. (It isn't recommended to actually
throw them, however. Many a lamp has been broken that way.) Point being,
these pieces are casual. Just make sure they coordinate with the toile
bedding.
